Usability of formal test description

Jörg M. Müller; University of Bremen

Surveys asking test users leads to the conclusion, that the psychometric strength of a measurement is not a guiding argument to use a test. An explanation about the missing influences of psychometric properties of a test had not been a topic of deeper analysis. With the help of a framework from Mahew (1999) developed to evaluate software usability (person, task, environment) 9 criteria had been derived which can be used to evaluate psychometric indices. To explain the criteria an analysis of reliability coefficients is given. New alternatives (Number of distinctive results, probability of distinctive results and amount of information; Müller, 1998, 2000) to display the measurement error are also shown and evaluated with the new criteria.
